Sheaves

Sheaves are the rolling part of the pulley. They can be used separately for a variety of idler and guide applications. They are generally made of:

  • Nylon (also known as Polyamide PA6), which can be reinforced with glass or carbon fibers.
  • Acetal, also known as POM, can also be reinforced with glass or carbon fibers.
  • Bakelite
  • Stainless steel
  • Titanium
  • Aluminum, etc.

Sheaves are available with or without ball bearings. The main materials used for bearing shells are :

  • Stainless steel
  • Torlon (registered trademark)
  • Delrin (registered trademark)
  • Ceramic

The more resistant the balls are to the workload, the smoother and more dynamic the bearing will be, but also the more expensive it will be to produce and resell.
