Boat Selected for the Toyko 2020 Olympic Games

The NACRA 17 has been especially developed to meet all ISAF criteria for the Mixed Multihull class. For the design of the NACRA 17 we again joined forces with designing/engineering company Morrelli & Melvin from Huntington Beach, California. We have been working together with them for many years already.

  • This design chosen for the Olympics results into
  • Full compliance with all ISAF criteria for the Mixed Multihull class
  • No interference with any other successful multihull class today
  • Wave piercing designs have a minimum draft resulting in a boat which obviously has less drag and less tendency to rock, creating a more constant high speed than conventional designs
  • The NACRA has a stiff platform resulting in a very direct response and maximum amount of energy from the wind is being transferred into forward motion
  • The NACRA 17 is light for its size, which ensures superb handling for both on and off the water
  • Makes the boat agile and therefore challenging to sail
  • Built in epoxy/glass/carbon and therefore durable
  • Carbon mast ensures both safety (re-righting moment versus crew weight) and performance
  • Modern high aspect ratio cut sails
  • Easy to power up or de-power
  • Designed and produced by one of the most experienced multihull sailmakers in the world
  • They generate pressure so you can start hull flying and trapezing sooner, additional findings from our sailing experience with curved boards.
  • Sheet loads reduced
  • Wider range in crew weight
  • Above facts result in:
  • Better controllability in windy conditions
  • Male or female can helm or crew
  • Challenging to find the last percentages of maximum performance

The NACRA 17 results into an agile and high speed racing machine giving both sailors and spectators a spectacular close racing fleet.
